Director of Moms For Ohio Theresa Fleming Releases Statement on The Ten Commandments
Editorial:

Sadly, "We the people" has apparently been replaced by "We the Judges".   editor1_1.jpgAnd whether the issue is the Pledge of Allegiance, In God We Trust or the Ten Commandments,  it's important that we realize that the real issue is not the words themselves or the placement of them, but whether or not we as Americans are willing to acknowledge God's role in our country.  God has always been a part of our country.  God is in the Declaration of Independence, The Pledge of Allegiance, The Star Spangled Banner, The Gettysburg Address, and on every single dollar bill.  Will the Supreme Court now insist that "In God We Trust" be removed from every dollar bill unless each one is displayed along side 17 other dollar bills with different historical slogans?

As for God, God has always been, and should always be a part of our country. God was there on the day so many gave their lives fighting so that we might be free and He was there the day the Declaration of Independence was signed.  God was there the day our boys stormed the beaches of Normandy and He was there the day the Twin Towers came down.  During each challenge our country has faced, we have always been able to find a way to stand together, as one people, one nation under God.  And what has always brought Americans together, what has given us the courage and strength to face the tough times and the terrible tragedies that sometimes occur in our world, is faith.  Faith in God, faith in each other, faith in the values and traditions that have built this great country.  It's sad that some members of the Supreme Court don't understand that, but what’s even sadder is that our elected leaders continue to allow it.

Family Research Council: Ten Commandments Suffer Blow
Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council:

Washington, D.C. -- Today, the Supreme Court issued a devastating decision and ruled against the constitutionality of Ten Commandment displays on public property.

Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council released the following statement condemning today's Supreme Court decision:

"The Ten Commandments have played a crucial role in shaping the values and legal system of the United States and of all Western Civilization as is evident in many of the buildings here in Washington. In fact, the Supreme Court building itself boasts three different displays.

"This ruling by the Supreme Court is not only denigrating to our culture but it undermines the very laws we already have in place. Forbidding the Ten Commandments opens the door to hostility toward religion, which is contrary to the free exercise clause of the 1st Amendment. Today's court decision is contrary to the Constitutional history of this country.

State Representative Ron Hood Introduces Legislation To Protect & Support Ohio Families
Considering how often politicians and political parties use the term "pro-family leron_hood.gifgislation", truly meaningful pro-family legislation is all too rare.  Consider for example Washington’s "tax credit" system.  Businesses, insurance companies, farmers, environmental firms, and a host of other special interest groups all receive "special" tax credits.  But despite the fact that we know that kids do best when mom is able to stay at home with them, at least when they are young, stay-at-home moms receive no "special tax credits".  Guess Moms aren’t “special” enough.  Health Care Reform?  Despite the fact that a growing number of families spend more on health care insurance and medical expenses than they do on their house payment, Congress has failed to enact any meaningful health care reform.  Social Security?  Perhaps one of the greatest indicators of the lack of respect that Congress has for motherhood is that Social Security continues to treat stay-at-home moms as second class citizens.  Clearly Congress has quite a long way to go before it can call itself "pro-family", but fortunately for Ohio families, in Ohio there are state legislators who are working very hard to ensure that the legislation enacted in our state will do all it can to support and strengthen families. Please use the below link to learn more about State Representative Ron Hood's Family Impact Statement.

"Mayor DePiero’s heart is with the people that he serves, and he serves them well". -Moms For Ohio PAC

For government to truly work for the benefit of the people, there must exist a bond of faith and trust between the people and the elected officials who serve them. In just the few months that he has served as mayor, Mayor DePiero has done much to establish that trust and Moms for Ohio commends him for his efforts.

Local Councilman Is True Public Servant
Some people are just special. You realize it the minute you meet them. Such is the case with Councilman Mike Daymut. Having lived in Strongsville for over 26 years and served on City Council for 13 years, Councilman Daymut has worked on a large number of city and community issues. One of the first projects that Councilman Daymut worked on was bringing computers to the city, but perhaps one of the most long-reaching was his work on the city’s master plan. Thanks to his efforts, and the efforts of his fellow councilmen, Strongsville has grown from a relatively small town to a city renowned for its excellent schools system, growing industrial park and outstanding recreation. In a time where many communities are struggling to bring in new businesses, Strongsville has exceeded all expectations in economic development. While Strongsville’s success is due to the efforts of many, there can be no doubt that the groundwork and planning laid by city council has contributed much to the city’s current success.

Will Pastors & Faith Leaders Get Their Freedom
Editorial:
The cost of freedom is high, but Americans have always paid it.
-President John F. Kennedy

There can be no greater gift than the gift given by a person who lays down their life for the sake of another. Throughout our country's history, over one million men and women serving in our armed forces have given their lives so that our country might remain safe and free. Isn't that freedom supposed to be for every American? But the truth is, not every American in our country has the Freedom of Speech. Pastors, whether they be priests, pastors, or rabbis do not have the same freedom of speech as other citizens. It's time, past time, that they did. For the minute we allow the freedom of even one American to be taken away, the freedom of every American is at risk.

A Mom Becomes State Representative
Sixteen years ago, Jennifer Garrison married Russ Garrison and moved to Marietta, Ohio to start their life together. Today, they are the proud parents of Emily, age 12; Sam, age 10; and Max, age 5. Caring deeply about the quality of her children’s education, and the education of every child in Ohio, Jennifer became deeply committed to finding a solution for the school funding issue that has plagued so many of Ohio’s school districts and decided to run for the office of State Representative. One of the other issues that Jennifer supported during her election was the Defense of Marriage Act.

Keep Ohio Tax Dollars In Ohio & Create Jobs For Ohio Families
In an effort to help keep Ohio tax dollars in Ohio and create jobs for Ohio families, State Representative Tom Patton has introduced House Bill 116. HB 116 is designed to ensure that more of Ohio's publicly funded school construction projects create jobs in Ohio-not jobs in other states. An upcoming addition to this bill will strengthen it even further by including safeguards against overspending. We hope this bill will be the first in a series of steps that Ohio will take to ensure that our tax dollars are spent on behalf of Ohio’s families and urge Ohioans to support HB 116.

Legislative Update: State Representative Tim DeGeeter fights to protect our children
State Representative Tim DeGeeter's bill, House Bill 49, which would change the definidegeeter.giftion of child pornography to include computer or digital images that are indistinguishable from pictures of actual children has had two hearings, and we hope for further action this fall. The bill would help prosecutors, who must now prove each and every image-no matter how realistic-is an actual child. Sadly, this has meant acquittals in a couple of recent high profile cases. It’s hard to imagine that any human being could hurt a child in such a horrible and obscene way, but it does happen. We are deeply grateful to State Representative DeGeeter for his work in this area and his efforts to keep our children safe. For more information, contact State Representative DeGeeter at 614-466-3485.
